Artmark Presents Monumental Works by Jaroslav Veshin and Georges Papazoff in Varna before the Summer Auction

Artmark Bulgaria arrives in Varna with a travelling exhibition dedicated to the Summer Auction 2026, which will take place on June 16 in Sofia. For the first time this summer, audiences in Varna will have the opportunity to view a curated selection of more than 40 works from the auction, presented at Gallery 33 in the heart of the city at 2A Gabrovo St.

The exhibition will open with a vernissage on June 5 at 6:00 PM and will continue on June 6 (10:00 AM–8:00 PM) and June 7 (10:00 AM–1:00 PM). Admission is free.

Artmark continues its initiative to present significant works of Bulgarian art beyond Sofia, creating opportunities for audiences to encounter works from important private collections shortly before their appearance at auction. The exhibition in Varna brings together a selection of modern and contemporary Bulgarian art, much of which rarely leaves private collections.

Among the highlights is the monumental composition "Before the Wedding" by Jaroslav Veshin, created in 1896. The large-format canvas, included in the monograph dedicated to the artist, is among the most important works by Veshin to appear on the Bulgarian art market in recent years. Created shortly before Veshin's arrival in Bulgaria, the work belongs to his cycle devoted to provincial life and rural subjects, influenced by Slovak folklore and traditions.

Another leading work in the exhibition is a painting by Georges Papazoff from the "Gladiators" series, created in 1956. Dating from the artist’s mature period, the work carries the expressive visual language through which Papazoff established himself as one of the important figures of European Modernism and Surrealism.

The exhibition also features works by Boris Georgiev, Bencho Obreshkov, and David Peretz, alongside a strong selection of post-war and contemporary Bulgarian art. Visitors will be able to view works by Dimitar Kirov, Genko Genkov, Encho Pironkov, Georgi Baev, Svetlin Rusev and Stoyan Tsanev — artists who hold a central place in Bulgarian painting of the second half of the 20th century.

All works presented at Gallery 33 are part of the Summer Auction of Artmark Bulgaria, which will take place on June 16, 2026 at Hyatt Regency Sofia.

Bidding will be available in person, by telephone, and online through the Artmark Live platform. The exhibition in Varna offers visitors the opportunity to experience artworks from one of the season’s most important art events up close before the auction.
