Exhibition Sculpture by Prof. Dimitar Rashkov

Visiting Period: March 4–17, 2026

In Hall 1 of its exhibition space, Gallery 33 is pleased to present the exhibition Sculpture by Prof. Dimitar Rashkov.

He was born in Karlovo on November 30, 1954. In 1981, he graduated with a degree in Sculpture from the National Academy of Arts, after which he taught for five years at the Art High School in Kazanlak. From 1986 to 1992, he served as Chief Artist of the Municipality of Karlovo and curator of the town’s art gallery, of which he was also Director until 2004.

In 2000, he won a competition organized by the Union of Bulgarian Artists for a creative residency at the Paris cultural center Cité Internationale des Arts. Rashkov’s career includes more than 65 solo exhibitions, and he has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and of the artists’ association “Philipopol” in Plovdiv.

In 2018, he was awarded an Honorary Professor diploma by the Alexander and Nikolay Stoletov Vladimir State University in the Russian city of Vladimir.

The sculptor’s work encompasses themes that have inspired him throughout his entire creative journey. These include pieces such as “Trifon Zarezan (The Intoxication of the Gods)”, “Eroticon (The Graceful Plump Figures)”, “Adam and Eve after the Expulsion from Paradise”, “Nature”, and others that unfold his distinctive imaginative universe.

In these works, the familiar characters from his small-scale sculptures come to life—figures inspired by Greek mythology: ancient deities, satyrs, nymphs, and centaurs. Characteristic of the artist are grotesque elements, compelling eroticism, the playful presence of Eros, and a vibrant sense of vitality radiating from each composition. All of this is expressed through a jeweler’s precision in detail—a hallmark of his original and inimitable style, combining sculptural expressiveness, symbolism, and a rich imagination.
