„Permafrost“

Exhibition by Vasil Yanev - Grapulo

Gallery 33 is pleased to present the exhibition “Permafrost” by the artist Vasil Yanev – Grapulo – a painterly series that explores the landscape as a space of suspended time, where the external world and inner experience overlap in a state of apparent stillness.

In the works from this series, the natural motif is transformed and released from its descriptive function. The landscape becomes a multilayered visual structure in which memory, emotion, and lived experience are preserved as traces beneath the surface. Like permafrost—a natural layer in which time accumulates and is preserved—the images convey a sense of frozen energy and inner tension.

Through saturated fields of colour and carefully constructed compositions, Vasil Yanev – Grapulo creates spaces that appear motionless yet contain a hidden dynamism and a continuous presence of change. In the exhibition “Permafrost”, the landscape is not a specific place, but a condition—a territory of preserved memory in which the visible is only the surface of deeper, invisible processes.
